Ohhh this was gooooooood!!

Black Bean, Butternut and Quinoa Burger w. Chipotle Aioli

My sis and I are on special food restrictions. I'm done with refined sugar for a whole 30 days and she's off a whole plethora of ingredients. For me it's one at a time. Next month I cut back on carbs while still greatly reducing my sugar intake. You really learn a lot about yourself and what you eat when you cut out an ingredient. Do you realize how much everyday stuff has sugar added to it? It's a lot. Breads, sunflowerseed butter, Primal Strips (eek!!), ketchup..etc..etc.. By the third day I was feeling a bit strange but not a bad strange a good strange and it keeps getting better and better. Its been 1 1/2 weeks now and I feel great. I've lost some chub from my chest and middle (although woman problems invaded my body the other day and ya can't tell anymore). I highly recommend this experiment. I want to cheat everyday but I then remember how great I feel without it and have yet to ask the local barista to just add a smidge of chocolate to my Iced Latte.

The other night I was really craving sweet. I decided that the above comfort dinner would hold off my cravings. The butternut gave me all the natural sweetness I needed and the chipotle aioli was well just delicious. It did nothing for my sweet tooth except give me a burning hot mouth. Served with Organic Tater Tots, sauteed broccoli and some avocado slices it was a perfect meal.

I remember one of my teachers in culinary school telling us to eat fried brown rice balls to curb our cravings for sweet. I'll have to give that a try one of these 30 days and see if it actually works.

Have any of you had success in curbing your sugar eating ways??

That's great! I'm also off of sugar, hopefully for life (barring rare, special occasions), but we'll see. I'm noticing that a lot of bloggers are cutting back on sugar. It's all very inspiring. Good luck on your journey! :o)

My regular diet excludes refined sugar (but I do have relapses once in a while, esp. around holidays). When I cut ALL sweeteners out of my diet on occasion, I have the exact reaction you describe here: I crave for a few days, then feel SO good that I forget about the sugar. Then, something happens and I eat something sweetened again, and it all starts over! I find having lots of fresh juices and LOTS of greens can help me keep away from the sweet stuff.

Those burgers look AMAZING!!!!!

Like Ricki, my everyday eating plan contains NO refined sugar. I never consume refined sugars - I only bake with and consume unrefined, natural sugars (i.e. in agave, fruit, etcetera).

I have cut out a lot of sugar, but there is still room for improvement - like when I bake. I would love-love-love to be sugar free. Baby steps...

And, I second Veggie Girl... Those burgers DO look amazing!!!

curbing my sweet tooth - fruit helps! i love pears! they're sweet & tasty and in season - and if ya don't like pears, frozen grapes = mmmmmmmm, too!

totally trying to cutting down on sugar here too. I still consume agave and maple, but other than that: back off, sweet stuff! eating fruit helps with curbing it down, of course.

also: have I told you lately that your pictures make my eyes and tummy happy? because they do.

I must admit I haven't thought about curbing my sugar intake. I've thought about not eating so much and trying to lose weight - so cutting back on sugar would probably be a great start.

I would love to cut back on refined sugar. Trouble is I'm such a sugar fiend and I'm testing cookie recipes at the moment. So maybe right now is not the time to cut back. I'm trying to cut out artificial and creepy sweeteners like hf corn syrup.

Those burgers look amazing too. I love winter squash in any incarnation.

Sugar is so hard to quit!

Those burgers look fabulous, and of course extra nice paired with the broccoli.

Hey - that looks great. And congrats on cutting the sugar. I don't do sugar, unless, like others have said, for really special occasions - like someone baked me something and it would be rude to say no.

I deal with any desire for sweetness by munching on dates or other fruit - esp. apples. I love apples. I am pretty lucky though, because, besides chocolate, I am not really into sweeties. As a kid I hated candy (still do) and would prefer an apple to a cup cake any day. But, I am weird....
Good luck with your sugar bust - keep us updated.
