Mexico meets Italy and they like each other.

I've been ignoring all the food in my fridge this past week. After work and a nice nap today I emptied all the 1/2 dead veggies I had and decided to make a veggie pasta sauce. After I added all the ingredients plus basil I went to the pantry to find some chickpeas or another italian friendly bean. To my horror all I had were black beans. My brain was telling me NOOOOOOOO! DO NOT ADD BLACK BEANS TO ITALIAN PASTA SAUCE!!! My brain was also telling me YOU NEED PROTEIN!! So I sat on it for a few and contemplated leaving out the beans/protein and just stick a few spoonfuls of peanut butter in my mouth. I eventually added the beans. It was delicious. Not that the black beans would taste wrong or bad but I just didn't want black beans in my tomato sauce. So to keep with the new mexican-italian theme I added mexican oregano to the sauce as well just to tie it all together. I still might stick a few spoonfuls of PB in my mouth though.

Pomegranate Chip Ice Cream by purely decadent. Very Good! Very floral tasting..almost yogurt like.

I'm glad you tried it and liked it, because otherwise I probably would never have added black beans to pasta sauce either! I love that Pomegranate Chip stuff...

Mmm, spoonful of peanut butter... I love putting borlotti beans in my pasta sauce, but I can see how black beans would be good!

It's mexican spaghetti - nothing unusual down here in Texas! I haven't made it in forever, but I believe I made mine with salsa instead of tomato sauce. Do you even like spicy stuff these days?

Yummy!!! And that subject line/header cracked me up. Reminded me of Sally Field... "you like me... you really like me..." or whatever it was that she cried years ago at the Oscars.

That is some seriously stellar spaghetti. It is chock full of wonderful stuff, just like *I* happen to like it!! i can relate to the adding the beans for protein... that's funny what your brain was "saying" - i've so been there!!

PB by the spoonful is such a decadent treat. i say go for it!!

i didn't know Purely Decadent made POMEGRANATE CHIP. woah mama.

Stopped me in my tracks, you did.

laura..i've added black beans to mexican pasta's before which is wonderful... but to one that i seasoned with italian spices never and i never thought i would.

theresa..a spoonful of peanut butter sounds good to me right about now.

atxvegn...im sure in texas you guys wouldn't blink an eyelash against it..but up here in italian northern nj (even if your aren't italian) your brain says no. i'm glad mine eventually said yes.
and yes i still LOVE spicy stuff even in my pregnancy days..it's never bothered me much.

kleopatra...go out and find that icecream! it's so good especially when they don't chop up all the chocolate bits and you get a HUGE chip in your mouth..

chi...you are just jealous because all you know how to do is cook meat for meat and cheese nachos...you should add beans to your nacho's next time...i can't believe we are related.

totally normal to put black beans in pasta sauce, look what the folks do up in cincinatti, ohio (no offense to anyone from OH) but they have that gross chili mac and you made a delicious ecletic sauce

Ah, you had a true melting pot in a bowl of pasta- looks like it worked out well!

And I like Purely Decadent's Pomegranate Chip, though I little too sugary for me- what I've just discovered is Soy Delicious Peanut Butter & Choclate- it is so good that I keep talking about it. You must try it-especially since you like your PB in spoonfuls!

vko..i make soymilk shakes out of soy delicious peanut butter and chocolate ice cream. it was an obsession of mine for awhile.

bethie..i've never heard of chili mac..and i don't think i want to hear about it. :) i can only imagine what is in it.

It's good to know I am not the only one that contemplates sticking a spoonful of Peanut Butter in my mouth.

b36, chili mac hails from ohio (again no offense to the peeps from ohio!) and it is a yucky mess of a spaghetti dish, it's spaghetti topped with chili that looks like poop and sprinkled too generously with cheddar cheese. gross & way too high in calories and fat and other icky things

I just tried the purely decadent chocolate chip cookie dough flavor. It was good, but not great. I should have tried the pomegranate chip instead. that is a cute picture!
